I just feel like going off on a rant at the next person who says “girl clothes” are stupid
I mean, I could say that “men’s” clothing is stupid. I could dismiss them as being too baggy and shapeless and unflattering. I could say that they’re all ridiculously boring, since there’s such a lack of variation among styles, patterns, and colors. I could say all that, but I don’t, because I know that it isn’t actually true.
I’ve just been getting really annoyed lately when people complain about “women’s” clothing being too tight, impractical, revealing, uncomfortable, or whatever. Maybe this is because I was extremely tomboyish up until middle school, and still wasn’t really feminine at all until fairly recently, meaning that for me the whole “wearing dresses, tights, and makeup” thing wasn’t a result of being raised of a sexist culture, it was my own choice.
Maybe I’m just lucky. I’ve found it easy to feel comfortable in clothes like that, and I’ve never personally had any issues with practicality. (In response to the complaint about pocket size, I’ve gotta ask why carrying purses is actually a bad thing. I’ve never heard a reason that wasn’t “they’re girly,” which is a problem for some people but isn’t enough justification to say that they shouldn’t exist.) Whatever. Hearing talk like this makes me want to buy an entirely new wardrobe full of dresses and lace and pinkness out of spite, which is bad because I can’t actually afford that. So now I’m just simmering in impotent, girly rage.
